Showcase to Ideas

Just about everyone has had picture and art frames that they have thrown out because the glass is broken, missing, or they just got bored with it.  Why not recycle your worn and withered frames to create a beautiful unique design that would look great in any home décor.

To start out, cut a piece of cardboard and mount it to the back of the wood frame large enough to cover the opening of the frame and secure it with clear packing tape.  The cardboard now replaces the missing glass and will hold your project in place.  Next, cut decorative finished scrapbooking paper to the size of your frames opening.  Then, apply artist spray adhesive to the back of your decorative paper and secure to the cardboard.  Hold it for a few seconds till the adhesive bonds.  Note: this step can be done prior to securing your cardboard to the back of the frame opening.  This will create a one of a kind piece of framed art work that you can incorporate in to your home décor.  A group of 3 frames would create even more of a visual impact.  Try painting old frames of various sizes the same color to create a framed art grouping.  The main thing is to have fun with it and make it your own.
Another idea: Hot glue a magnet board to the inside edge of an open backed picture frame. You now have an instant message or photo board.

Supplies:

  • Wooden Frame
  • Cardboard
  • Decorative printed Scrap paper (Flat or shiny)
  • Artist spray adhesive
  • Optional – Paint picture frames (acrylic paint)
